A QUESTIONABLE NEED

THERE IS NO DEMAND

According to BC Hydro's own numbers, projected demand for electricity has dropped so much that the energy from Site C will not be fully required for at least a decade after it is commissioned.

A HISTORY OF
OVER-ESTIMATING

BC Hydro has a 30-year history of overestimating future electricity demand — by as much as 40%. We have still not reached the electricity demand that BC Hydro forecast in the 1980s, when it first submitted applications to construct the dam.

Electric cars don't make the case

LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) development and electric cars will not produce enough demand to justify Site C on its present timeline. BC Hydro's own forecasts indicate that demand from LNG and electric cars will be modest until the 2030s — when cheaper, less damaging energy sources can be built.
